italfestMTL (previously named Montreal’s Italian Week), which premiered in August in the Montreal-North borough, was launched in 1994. The festival today offers a variety of activities and events in various Montreal neighborhoods, as well as in Laval.
Today, the Italian community is one of the largest ethno-cultural groups in Quebec and contributes significantly to its social and economic development. According to the 2016 census, Quebec now has nearly 326,700 people of Italian ethnic origin, including more than 279,795 in Montreal alone.
italfestMTL, organized by the National Congress of Italian-Canadians in Quebec, is a non-profit and non-political corporation, founded in 1972, for which one of its missions is to promote Italian culture and promote multi-ethnic relations in the region. For this reason, the Congress has decided to offer Montreal citizens and tourists this unique festival experience.
italfestMTL aims to promote and bring to life Italian culture through the expressive and artistic forms that characterize it. The festival today offers a variety of free activities and events in various Montreal neighborhoods, as well as in Laval.
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The National Congress of Italian-Canadians is proud and thrilled to invite you to celebrate italfestMTL with us!
For over 25 years, our festival has been highlighting Italian culture through numerous events, including concerts, a fashion show, an opera, a film festival, an art competition, a car show, as well as several other gastronomic and cultural discoveries. italfestMTL is undoubtedly an event not to be missed during the festival season this summer.
Promoting the cultural diversity and craftsmanship of the Italian-Canadian community is part of the Congress’ mandate and we firmly believe that italfestMTL meets this objective.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work of our members, employees and volunteers, who continually make the festival a success. We would also like to thank our sponsors, thanks to whom italfestMTL continues to grow and evolve every year.
As the President of the National Congress of Italian-Canadians, it is my honor and pleasure to invite you to take part in the festivities and celebrate with us the Italian culture in Montreal.
President of the NCIC
