The orchestra was born in 1970, under the name of “Harmonie scolaire Henri-Bourassa”, as part of the music program of which Mr. Antonio Bernabei is responsible. In 1992, there were 3 harmonies, including Senior harmony, made up of former students, but also welcoming other musicians from the Greater Montreal area. In 2008, Mr. Bernabei returned to the pulpit for a “reunion” concert with former students and musicians. This event gives a new breath to the orchestra; new board of directors, creation of an artistic committee, and commitment of about forty motivated and committed musicians! Several concerts a year, participation in various events, including the centennial of Montréal-Nord with the great Oliver Jones, the festival of arts, the festival of harmonies and symphonic orchestras of Quebec, and more, make the orchestra more active, known and appreciated than ever, attracting an ever-wider audience. The word “harmony” refers more to a school orchestra; therefore, in 2018, the board of directors chose to rename the orchestra: Orchestra à vents de Montréal-Nord (OVMN). Under the direction of Mr. Jean-Marc Lefebvre since 2015, the Orchestra à vents de Montréal-Nord always follows its first objective, which is to offer concerts of varied, quality music, as it has done for almost 50 years! Its motto? Always better, always higher!
